AMARILLO, Texas (Feb. 28, 2025) – Xcel Energy - Southwestern Public Service Company (SPS) launched a new website with updated information on its Smokehouse Creek Fire recovery measures. This website will serve as a central information hub and can be found at xcelenergy.com/smokehousecreek.
“As we work with our Panhandle neighbors who are recovering from last year’s wildfire and implement new tools to reduce the risk of future wildfires, we understand that finding information can be challenging. This website will be updated regularly to ensure the most current and accurate information is available,” said Adrian Rodriguez, President, Xcel Energy – Texas, New Mexico. “We want the communities we serve to be informed about our past actions, current efforts and what we have planned for the future.”
The new website provides current information on claims and lawsuits as well as a link to assist those who want to file a claim.
“If anyone is planning to file a claim but has not yet done it, we encourage you to do so now,” said Rodriguez. “If you have filed and need additional assistance, please reach out to us as soon as possible.”
The website includes contact information for filing claims and following up on previously filed claims, ensuring that those affected have the support they need throughout the process.
“We have significantly strengthened our wildfire mitigation efforts through strategic investments, system improvements and collaborative initiatives,” Rodriguez added. “Xcel Energy and SPS continue to work diligently toward enhancing electric grid reliability, increasing public safety, improving situational awareness and partnering with our communities to reduce wildfire risks—all with the ultimate goal of preventing catastrophic wildfires.”
