MINNEAPOLIS (June 10, 2026) — Xcel Energy crews are working to assess damage and safely restore power to customers as quickly as possible after a line of storms swept across Minnesota early this morning.

Heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds caused damage to power lines and poles, resulting in electric outages that currently affect about 40,000 customers across the state. The majority of these outages are in the East Metro of the Twin Cities. Visit the Outage Map for an updated count throughout the day. Customers who are experiencing outages should check for damage to their mast, which is the electric service connection to their home. If the mast is damaged, a licensed electrician must make repairs, and the mast must be inspected before service can be restored. See the Outage Checklist for more information.

About 275 crews are in the field now to safely restore power as quickly as possible, with additional teams slated to join this afternoon. Crews report first to situations that threaten public safety, such as downed wires that are still energized, followed by the restoration jobs that will bring the largest number of customers back online at once. Additional storms are expected this afternoon and could result in further outages.

Xcel Energy knows losing power is difficult and the company thanks customers for their patience and support of its crews.

Report an outage or get updates

Prepare and stay safe

Stay away from downed or sagging power lines and always assume an electric line, even one on the ground, is energized and dangerous. Never touch or move a downed power line; instead, leave the area and report it immediately by calling 1-800-895-1999.

Build a home emergency kit to use in the event of additional power outages, with items such as:

  • Xcel Energy phone numbers: 1-800-895-1999 for residential or 1-800-481-4700 for business
  • Battery-powered radio or television
  • Flashlights
  • Batteries
  • Backup phone chargers
  • A phone that does not require electricity
  • Non-electric alarm clock
  • Bottled water and nonperishable food
  • Manual can opener
  • First aid kit
  • Extension cords (for partial outages)
  • Manufacturer's instructions on how to manually open power-operated doors (e.g., garage doors)
