MINNEAPOLIS (Jan. 18, 2018) – Xcel Energy is teaming up with the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee to power Super Bowl LIVE presented by Verizon with clean, renewable wind energy from right here in Minnesota.
As the official Renewable Energy Provider of the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee, Xcel Energy is powering the free 10-day community festival through the company’s Windsource® program. Windsource uses 100 percent wind energy generated from Minnesota wind farms and is available to any Xcel Energy business and residential customer that wants to receive some or all of their energy from renewable resources.
“Xcel Energy is proud to support the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee and put our renewable and clean energy leadership center stage,” said Chris Clark, president, Xcel Energy-Minnesota. “All eyes will be on Minnesota, and this is an exciting opportunity to showcase to residents, visitors and fans from around the world how clean, renewable energy can power the biggest events any community can host.”
Xcel Energy will also participate in the festival with an activation celebrating our clean energy future. The company's activation, to be located on Nicollet Mall at 7th Street, was created in partnership with its wind turbine provider, Vestas. It features a wind turbine blade tip, an energy efficient tiny house, a new Xcel Energy light board and a bean bag toss game. For hours and details, visit the event’s website (external link).
Xcel Energy is a national leader in renewable energy and has been the country’s number one utility wind energy provider for more than a decade. The company expects its energy mix to be 44 percent renewables and 77 percent carbon-free by 2022.
