EAU CLAIRE, Wisconsin (April 16, 2020) – Xcel Energy is currently in the process of conducting a six-foot drawdown of the St. Croix Falls Flowage on the St. Croix River. The drawdown is necessary to reinstall the boat barrier and repair the flashboards that were impacted from high river flows during spring runoff.

River flows have dropped sufficiently in the last week to allow the drawdown to proceed. The drawdown rate will be six-inches per day and will continue until a target elevation of 749.0 feet is achieved (normal full pool is 755.0 feet). The pond will be held at the target elevation for several days to make the necessary repairs. The entire process, including the reservoir refill, should be completed in time for the Wisconsin fishing opener on May 2.
