AMARILLO, Texas (Jan. 22, 2026) — Xcel Energy (NASDAQ: XEL) has crews and resources positioned to support customers across Texas and New Mexico as the company prepares for a winter storm across the region beginning Friday.

Xcel Energy generates electricity, operates the transmission system that moves power across the region and maintains the local distribution lines that deliver electricity to homes and businesses. The company oversees its own power plants and coordinates with other generation resources from which it purchases power to reliably serve customers. Xcel Energy is part of the Southwest Power Pool and is not on the ERCOT grid that serves much of the rest of Texas.

Xcel Energy’s power plant, transmission and distribution teams have completed storm preparations, and there are approximately 250 internal distribution crew members, with an additional 30 contract crews available if needed. Linemen with equipment and materials are staged and ready to respond as conditions develop, particularly if impacts increase over the weekend.

While the electric system has benefited from ongoing grid hardening and resiliency efforts and is designed to withstand severe weather, certain conditions can still cause outages. Xcel Energy is closely monitoring the potential for ice accumulation, which could increase the likelihood of outages.

Xcel Energy encourages customers to prepare in advance in case power outages last several hours or extend overnight. Customers should plan for safe ways to stay warm, including having warm clothing or blankets available, and may consider spending time in the home of a friend or family member not affected by an outage. Customers should always follow applicable safety guidance during any weather-related outage.

Xcel Energy reminds everyone to stay away from downed power lines and assume they are energized. Any downed lines should be reported immediately to the company or call 911.

We appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding as crews work safely and efficiently to restore service in the event outages occur because of this storm. Xcel Energy will continue to monitor conditions and provide additional updates as needed throughout the weekend.

Customers experiencing a power outage can report it by calling Xcel Energy at 800-895-4999, report the outage through the Xcel Energy mobile app, or by texting OUT to 98936. Customers can also check the status of an outage online or by texting STAT to 98936.

Customers may also sign up for text or email outage alerts through My Account at www.xcelenergy.com.

If damage occurs to customer-owned equipment, such as a meter box or service mast, repairs must be completed by a licensed electrician and inspected by local code officials before power can be restored.
