Minneapolis, Minnesota (Nov. 9, 2018) – Xcel Energy is named a 2018 Top Veteran Employer (external link) by MilitaryHire.com as the nation observes Veterans Day. The national publication selected 110 companies, and recognized Xcel Energy for its company values. The company’s commitment to the community and dedication to hiring and retaining veterans were highlights.
“We appreciate the sacrifice that our veterans and their families have made to ensure the safety and security of our nation, and it’s an honor to have these men and women in our workforce,” said Ben Fowke, chairman, president, CEO, Xcel Energy. “Our veterans share our values and bring leadership, teamwork and experience to the job and deliver for our customers.”
Xcel Energy uses innovative recruitment programs to encourage military hiring. This year, 10 percent of the company’s new hires have served in the armed forces. It’s the fifth year in a row that the company has achieved its veteran hiring goal.
On the job, an employee resource group helps veterans succeed by providing mentors and networking resources. Xcel Energy’s network of support services for veterans and active military is part of its longstanding commitment for diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
In addition to its programs for hiring and retention, Xcel Energy does business with more than 140 veteran entrepreneurs and provides outreach to veterans groups in the communities it serves.
