MINNEAPOLIS (Aug. 4, 2026) — Xcel Energy invites the public to join employees and their friends and families on Thursday, Sept. 10 through Saturday, Sept. 12 for its 16th annual Day of Service, an opportunity to give back to their communities.
Volunteers can sign up now for one of more than 40 nonprofit projects in Minnesota. Many are based in the Twin Cities metro area, with other opportunities near Mankato, Red Wing, St. Cloud and Faribault. Indoor and outdoor projects are available, from planting trees to packing meals for those with food insecurities and landscaping activities to packing school supplies for students in need.
“Day of Service is a meaningful way for us to give back to the organizations that help strengthen our communities every day,” said Bria Shea, president of Xcel Energy in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. “Supporting the communities we live and work in is at the heart of who we are, and we’re proud to devote our time and resources—not just during these few days—but year-round to make a difference. People of all ages and abilities can participate and we invite you join us.”
Xcel Energy’s Day of Service has been an annual tradition since 2010 and is the company’s largest volunteer effort. Last year, over 2,900 employees, contractors, friends, family, retirees and customers across the eight states Xcel Energy serves contributed 8,900 hours of volunteer work — including packing more than 81,000 meals and assembling 6,600 supply kits for teachers and students. Their efforts benefited nearly 100 nonprofits and generated an economic impact of more than $321,000.
Day of Service was created as a tribute to the victims, survivors and first responders of 9/11, as well as all those who work to keep communities and the country safe. The annual volunteer event provides an opportunity for Xcel Energy and members of the community to come together and contribute to projects that benefit local nonprofits.
Registration to volunteer for Day of Service closes Aug. 28.
