DENVER (December 15, 2021) – Xcel Energy crews will work through the night to continue restoring power to customers impacted by the extreme wind event that hit Colorado today. Heading into the evening, roughly 31,000 customers remain without power.
The company put plans into place well ahead of the storm. Staffing levels were increased and included 450 crews and contractors working through the day on power outages. The winds knocked down power poles, sent tree limbs into lines and caused other damage. During storm restoration, customers should anticipate that crews will not clean up tree debris, instead focusing on restoring power. Only during routine maintenance will crews chip and haul away branches.
Crews are also reminding customers to stay safe and stay away from downed power lines. If customers come across a downed line, they should assume its energized and dangerous. Never touch or move a downed line and instead leave the area and report it immediately by calling 1-800-895-1999.
Customers who are experiencing an outage, and have not yet reported it, are encouraged to contact Xcel Energy. It is not uncommon to see outage numbers increase as customers return home and discover an outage.
