AMARILLO, Texas – Xcel Energy crews are prepared to start patrolling and restoring power to customers in eastern New Mexico and in the South Plains region of Texas when high winds die down tonight, beginning around midnight Central/11 p.m. Mountain. As of 7:15 p.m. CT/6:15 p.m. MT, about 11,200 customers are without power in the region.
Xcel Energy implemented a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) earlier today for just more than 1,100 customers to reduce wildfire risk. Outages have also occurred due to high winds.
Restoration efforts can only begin once wildfire and weather-related risks have subsided, which we expect to be around midnight CT/11 p.m. MT. Our top priority is ensuring the safety of our communities, customers and work crews. Circumstances permitting, crews hope to patrol power lines and restore power to customers in and around Silverton and Seminole, TX and Tucumcari, NM overnight. Crews will attempt to restore other areas, which require patrolling more difficult terrain, on Wednesday, March 19.
Xcel Energy will continue to share updates as the situation develops on this dedicated PSPS event web page and provide the current status of outages via the Xcel Energy outage map.
