Denver (August 10, 2021) — Xcel Energy—Colorado is excited to once again invite customers to join in the company’s annual Day of Service, with projects taking place, both in person and virtually, September 9-11. Customer volunteers were limited last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Day of Service is a way for not only Xcel Energy but Coloradoans to focus its energy on helping its communities as a tribute to the 9/11 victims, survivors, first responders and all those who, on a daily basis, work to keep our country safe.
“We’re excited to be able to work side by side again with our customers and neighbors to make a difference in the communities we serve through our annual Day of Service,” said Hollie Velasquez Horvath, senior director of state affairs and community relations. “Our communities are at the center of everything we do, and when Xcel Energy employees and customers come together to serve nonprofits making local impact, we are helping build the future of our communities – together.”
The company is able to offer in-person volunteering to the general public this year. Volunteers are encouraged to be fully vaccinated. Those who are not may register to volunteer, understanding they will need to comply with federal and state public health recommendations, including wearing face coverings and social distancing. All volunteers will have to comply with applicable state or federal health recommendations.
“Safety is Xcel Energy’s top priority and ensuring the welfare of all our volunteers and nonprofit partners at Day of Service is paramount,” said Velasquez Horvath.
The 2021 Day of Service will have more than 40 nonprofit projects across the state, with projects throughout the Denver Metro area, Northern Colorado, Pueblo and Grand Junction. Past Day of Service projects have seen thousands of volunteers, including Xcel Energy—Colorado employees, family members, friends and customers taking part.
For those unable to volunteer, they can download The Good Energy Pledge where they will be entered into a drawing where two winners will be randomly selected to receive $500 to donate to a Day of Service nonprofit of their choice. Xcel Energy Day of Service – History:
For the past 11 years, Xcel Energy’s Day of Service has been an annual tradition and is the company’s single-largest volunteer effort. Last year, 2,700 volunteers contributed 3,000 hours to 40 nonprofit organizations in Colorado. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the company primarily offered take-home projects, which resulted in more than 11,000 items, such as baby blankets and hygiene kits, being distributed to organizations throughout the state. While Day of Service has grown through the years, the message stays the same, get together, have fun, give back.
Since the first Day of Service in 2011, more than 26,000 volunteers have contributed over 77,000 hours of volunteer work to help our community thrive.
