DENVER (Oct. 7, 2025) — In recognition of Fire Prevention Month, Xcel Energy and the American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming are proud to announce a partnership that aims to empower Colorado residents with the knowledge and resources needed to prepare for and respond to wildfire risks.
Educating and Preparing Communities
As part of the collaborative partnership, Xcel Energy representatives will work alongside Red Cross volunteers to deliver wildfire prevention guidance and home safety information, and support families in developing emergency preparedness plans. In the event of a wildfire or Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS), Xcel Energy and Red Cross will mobilize alongside local communities to provide impacted community members with essential resources and timely information.
Through the course of the partnership, Xcel Energy will serve as the Presenting Sponsor for Home Fire Campaigns and Sound the Alarm events in Colorado. These programs will directly engage residents across the state, sharing critical wildfire prevention strategies and educating the public on essential steps to take during a PSPS. Special emphasis will be placed on youth preparedness and equipping children with lifesaving skills through the “Prepare with Pedro” program.
Two upcoming events will see this partnership come alive. Find the Red Cross and Xcel Energy’s RED trucks at:
- Sound the Alarm, Pueblo, CO, October 18 – 08:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
- Sound the Alarm, Golden CO, October 25 – 08:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Have Medical Needs?
If you use a powered medical device that relies on electricity or refrigerate medications, Xcel Energy encourages you to prepare for power outages in advance.
If you inform Xcel Energy of your medical condition, you can receive additional advance notification of planned Public Safety Power Shutoffs and additional notifications for unplanned outages. You may also qualify for lower electric rates or protection against credit action and disconnection.
