EAU CLAIRE, Wisconsin (July 30, 2019) - With a recent subscription from Bretting Manufacturing in Ashland, Wisconsin’s largest community solar garden program is now fully subscribed. In addition, Xcel Energy’s Solar* Connect Community garden in Ashland is now online and generating renewable energy for subscribers.

“When this program began, we knew there was strong interest for local community solar gardens,” said Mark Stoering, president, Xcel Energy-Wisconsin and Michigan. “I am proud to say our customers have spoken and today we have three fully subscribed, utility-scale, community solar gardens in northwestern Wisconsin. These customers will realize the environmental and cost benefits of these gardens for many years to come, and we thank them for their support of this program.”

Xcel Energy’s first community solar garden went online in October 2017 in Eau Claire and the second was completed in May 2019 in Cashton, east of La Crosse. There are currently more than 150 customers accounting for 3,000 kilowatts of solar energy.

As a national leader in clean energy, Xcel Energy became the first utility in the nation to set a vision to deliver 100 percent carbon-free electricity to its customers and communities by 2050. The company is on track to deliver 60 percent renewable energy by 2030 throughout the states it serves.

Xcel Energy electricity customers in Wisconsin have other renewable energy options including low-cost Renewable*Connect, which features a blend of wind and solar energy and flexible subscription terms. With Renewable*Connect, customers have the option to offset their carbon footprint by securing up to 100 percent of their electricity from renewable resources without the need to add any equipment.
