DENVER (Sept. 3, 2021) – Xcel Energy—Colorado wants customers in the Boulder Foothills to be aware of maintenance work on the transmission system that will result in a planned electric power outage on Wednesday, September 8. The outage is expected to impact customers in Nederland, Ward, Jamestown and the surrounding area, and will last approximately two hours, between 11:00 p.m. to 1 a.m. The outage is needed so crews can safely repair and maintain equipment to ensure ongoing service reliability for the community.
“We know a power outage is inconvenient for customers, and we appreciate their patience as our crews work to make these improvements so we can maintain reliable service,” said Alice Jackson, president of Xcel Energy—Colorado. “We’re always working to improve reliability to power the lives of our customers.”
The outage is expected to affect approximately 5,000 customers in the area. Impacted customers who have provided the company with their phone numbers can expect to receive a reminder phone call from Xcel Energy prior to the outage. Customers can also sign up to receive notifications or update their notification preferences by logging into My Account or by using our quick notification signup.
Ahead of the planned outage, customers are encouraged to:
- Turn off computers and remember to reset alarm systems or other equipment sensitive to a power outage or electrical surges.
- Plan for batteries and other alternatives to meet their needs when the power goes out. Keep mobile phones and other electric equipment charged.
- Keep freezers and refrigerators closed.
- Remember that garage door openers, sump pumps and other equipment will not work during the outage if they operate only on electric power.
